2009 Stimulus Bill Gives Homeowners $1500 Tax Credit for Installing New Energy Efficient Windows and Doors in their homes from Jan 1, 2009 until Dec 31, 2010. Tax Credit is 30% of the cost to replace windows up to a $1500 cap. This is a tax CREDIT, not a deduction! You'll see the ENTIRE $1500 knocked off your tax bill when you file your taxes if you quality. Example 1: Spend $5,000 or more and receive the maximum $1,500 tax credit.
Requirements: New Replacement Windows MUST have ratings below a 0.30 U-Factor(Value) AND a 0.30 SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient) to qualify. IMPORTANT: Very few windows sold today qualify with those numbers--even Energy Star rated windows! Manufacturers are scrambling to re-work their window designs to meet these new requirements. We've done hours of research so you'll know for sure whether the windows you're buying meet the above requirements. Don't be fooled, MOST windows sold today (even with Low-E glass & EnergyStar rating) do NOT meet requirements. Homeowners must keep the window stickers or manufacturer print-out that the windows meet the requirements. Consult your tax advisor for filing information. This Replaces the $500 tax credit for 2009*.
